Abstract

Normative ethics determine the options we ought to do by ethically evaluating actions. In the reason-based theory, the facts of what ought to do are grounded and explained in virtue of the facts about reasons. According to this view, in this article it is shown that the moral deontic status of the options -which itself is derived from the normative deontic status of the options-is determined by weighing the amount of normative weight of the basic practical normative reasons and based on what we call the modified basic model. Actually, the modified basic model works by weighing the basic normative reasons relevant to a situation. To support our assumptions, we address the objections raised by the opponents. These objections include Pro tanto holism, normative pluralism, non-compositional holism and the objection of normative options. After evaluating these objections, each one will be responded. Finally, we conclude that our assumptions will be defensible.
