چکیده

The nature of the “intelligence” of artificial intelligence is a hotly debated notion today. Sensational claims about the successes of AI (including the declaration that synchronicity is already achieved) and warnings against its potential malice (e.g., that once it grasps the level of human consciousness it will turn against humanity) are part of our everyday experience. In this article, I argue that the most extreme claims about the present state of AI are not warranted. In the first part of the article, I make the case that human intelligence/consciousness is a unique phenomenon which cannot be matched by machines. Then, in the second part, I turn to what I consider the more valid possibilities and worries about AI. I envision artificial personas (quasi-agents) working in collaboration with human agents on the betterment of the world; and counsel against the possibility of weaponizing AI. I finish the article by reflecting on some of the constructive ways for philosophical engagement in this discussion.”
